3 Brain-Boosting Foods for You

Hi, friend!

I wanted to briefly share with you today about a few foods that are amazing for our brains! When I'm adding in these ingredients to my smoothies or oatmeal, I'm thinking of giving my brain big hug and the nourishment it needs!

Remember, it's food that we eat and the lifestyle we live that are medicine— having the power to prevent, treat, and even reverse chronic diseases.

Here is a list for you of 3 of the top brain-boosting foods + their AMAZING benefits, from Julie Morris, a natural foods chef and superfood specialist:

1. Cacao

  • Elevates mood (and decreases both depression and anxiety)

  • Boosts learning and memory

  • Enhances focus

  • Highly neuroprotective (enhances neuro-cognitive functioning)

  • Tip: Adding organic cacao powder or cacao nibs to smoothies, oatmeal, or yogurt are a great way to get in these nutrients! Or clean, organic dark chocolate that is at least 70% cacao.

2. Purple berries — blueberries, acai, blackberries, and even less dark ones like raspberries, strawberries, and cranberries

  • Improve problem solving, learning, and memory

  • Highly neuroprotective and anti-aging

  • Help with fluidity of thought

  • Improve coordination and balance

  • Increase alertness and focus

3. Matcha

  • Provides calmness and energy

  • Diminishes anxiety and improves sense of well-being

  • Boosts motivation and focus

  • Improves memory and cognition

  • Promotes creative thinking and flow

  • Highly neuroprotective

  • Tip: Try a matcha latte! You can also add matcha to smoothies, granola, and baked goods.
